Is the Atlantic coast all clear? Getting Ready for Hurricane Season

KMRD Are You Ready for One Minute From Normal?

Is the Atlantic coast all clear?

In May, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicted a “very active” Atlantic hurricane season and reported it expected between seven and eleven hurricanes. And yet, although Monday was the midpoint of the hurricane season, which ends November 30, so far there hasn’t been even one hurricane.

Does this mean we are in the clear?

According to Dennis Feltgen, a NOAA meteorologist, “it’s still forecast to be an active season and it still can be.” Feltgen said that regardless of the rarity of making it to Labor Day without a hurricane, “to write off the season would be a huge mistake,” because “we just entered the peak season.”

Feltgen went on to say, “We don’t want anyone letting their guard down … We will have a hurricane, probably a number of them.”

The time for preparation for weather related and all other unanticipated events is now.  Preparation includes mitigation planning as well as knowing what happens after the event.  An understanding of your insurance coverages and how they will assist you after the storm passes is vital to returning to normal.  Those who plan and prepare return to prosperity; those who do not confront the reality and fail to prepare struggle.  As risk management consultants and insurance specialists, we believe it is never a good time to let your guard down..
